Overview

Egypt's great highlights, experienced in comfort. This nine-day journey pairs a 5-star hotel in Cairo with a 5-star full-board Nile cruise, and gives you time to see the pyramids, historic Cairo and the temples of Upper Egypt at an unhurried pace, with a professional English-speaking Egyptologist guide. You stay at the Hilton Cairo Grand Nile or a similar 5-star hotel. Your first full day is spent at the Pyramids of Giza, the Great Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum. The next takes you into historic Cairo: the Hanging Church, the Church of St. Sergius and the Ben Ezra Synagogue, followed by a stroll through the lanes of Khan El Khalili Bazaar. A flight takes you to Aswan, where you board your cruise and visit Philae Temple, the Kiosk of Trajan, the Temple of Hathor, the Unfinished Obelisk and the Aswan High Dam. The ship sails north to Kom Ombo Temple, then to Edfu, where a horse-drawn carriage takes you to the Temple of Horus, before reaching Luxor for Karnak and Luxor temples. After a morning on the West Bank at the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon, you fly back to Cairo and your 5-star hotel. Your last full day is free to relax or explore. You can add an optional tour of Saqqara, Dahshur and Memphis, or a day trip to Alexandria. Other optional experiences include a Nubian village boat trip, the Abu Simbel temples and a sunrise hot-air balloon flight over Luxor. The domestic flights, eight nights of accommodation including the cruise, meals as listed in the itinerary and all ground transfers in air-conditioned vehicles are included.

Entrance fees to archaeological sites, international flights and travel insurance are not included. Check Egypt's visa requirements for your nationality before you travel. Day 8 in Cairo is a free day, so you can rest or book one of the optional tours to Saqqara, Dahshur and Memphis or to Alexandria. When visiting churches and the synagogue in historic Cairo, modest clothing covering shoulders and knees is recommended. Comfortable walking shoes, a hat and sun protection are recommended for the archaeological sites. Gratuities for guides, drivers and cruise staff are not included and are customary in Egypt.
