The essential highlights of Egypt and Jordan in ten well-planned days. This journey takes you from the Pyramids of Giza along the Nile on a 5-star cruise, then across to Jordan for Petra, Madaba, Mt. Nebo and the Roman city of Jerash, with expert English-speaking local guides in each country. After your arrival in Cairo, you spend a full day at the Pyramids of Giza, the Great Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum, with lunch at a restaurant serving authentic Egyptian cuisine. That evening you board the overnight train south to Aswan. In Aswan you join your 5-star full-board Nile cruise and visit Philae Temple on Agilika Island, the Kiosk of Trajan, the Temple of Hathor, the Unfinished Obelisk and the Aswan High Dam. The ship then sails to Kom Ombo and Edfu, where a horse-drawn carriage takes you to the Temple of Horus, before reaching Luxor for Karnak and Luxor temples. Your last day in Egypt is spent on Luxor's West Bank at the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon, before the train back to Cairo. A flight then takes you to Amman. In Madaba you see the famous 6th-century Mosaic Map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land at St. George's Church, then visit Mt. Nebo. The next day is devoted entirely to Petra: you enter through the narrow Siq gorge and explore the Treasury, rock-cut tombs, theatres, temples and colonnaded streets. Your final full day combines the remarkably preserved Roman city of Jerash with downtown Amman, its Citadel and museums. Optional upgrades are available, including a 5-star hotel in Cairo, sleeper trains, flights in place of the trains, a Nubian village boat trip, Abu Simbel and a sunrise balloon flight over Luxor.
